Classes held at The Old Bar Upstairs Gallery space at 74-76 Johnston St, Fitzroy, Melbourne.

Yasemin Sumner from Stitch You Up (ME!) is holding embroidery workshop at the upstairs gallery space at Old Bar.

The first Beginners class will suit newbies and those wanting to refresh their embroidery basics where you will learn and practise basic stitches (back stitch, split stitch, satin stitch) using fine Egyptian embroidery thread. Then use those nifty skills to complete a Stitch You Up Design of your choice from the DIY Kit range.

You will go at your own pace and take home a goody bag filled with embroidery tools to continue the design at home.

Materials include –

  • Basic Stitch guide with handy embroidery hints
  • Original Stitch You Up Embroidery Kit of your choice (including design stencil, embroidery sewing needle, detailed stitch guide with photos)
  • Selection of colours in Egyptian cotton embroidery thread
  • 4 inch wooden embroidery hoop
  • Calico fabric
  • Craft scissors/nip cutters

  • And a few other surprise gifts on the day.

The second Intermediate class will suit people who completed the beginners class,  beer garden embroidery workshops last year or have basic embroidery skills. This one is perfect for artists and craftspeople who would like feedback from peers and instructor on project ideas and how to incorporate new embroidery techniques.

You have the choice to bring along your own design or idea for a project or work with a more complex Stitch You Up design.

There will be a review of stitches (back stitch, split stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch, feather stitch, French knot) and then a discussion on project ideas. I will run through different techniques, methods and concepts of how and idea is shaped from the process of drawing through to the stitching and demonstrate methods of transferring images onto fabric and translating drawings into embroidery.

Tho hoops provided for this class are twice the size and will have a selection of different types of fabrics.
